Feeling sentemental so I'm writing a new post.
Lots has happened in the past year. Met some really cool people, some of whom are becoming close friends. Lost touch with a few including one who has pretty much shut out the old wolf pack from his life, we all found out about his engagement from Facebook a few months ago, and he still hasn't gotton in touch with any of us. Quit my bartending job about 3 months ago initially to work with some friends at an oilfield supply shop, but since it was taking too long I went to Calgary to look for a Bartending job. Got hired at a nightclub just after the Calgary Stampede as a Barback and when I realized that there was no intention of moving me up to a bartender, I gave my two weeks notice, I have one week left.
I'll be moving back to my hometown where things are finally happening at the shop, and it looks like I'll probably be starting in two weeks. What has me excited is my plans for a sideline bartending business with a friend. It'll be weekend events and we'll try to make it as much "cash under the table" as we can. The real allure is that there is almost no startup or overhead costs as the event halls have bars and the unused liquor and supplies can all be returned. The only real costs will be licensing the company, taxation, and advertising. Eventually I'd like to have a custom portable bar built by my buddy, which will probably cost $1,500, but in the meantime my old job which I'll be buying the booze from could probably let us use their mobile bar if needed.
I'm also getting closer with a lot of people, after a little trouble with the law I needed to get away. Charges were dropped but memories still linger and the lack of news in my life made the incidents the first thing that people remembered.
Now with my life finally having a foundation, I can focus on building my quality of life. A steady, reasonable paying job means in 6 months I might be able to afford the downpayment on a house, get some renters, possibly lease a new truck, and save money for the things I love, like myself.
Also my personal life will probably improve now that I have a "normal" job and I'm not constantly travelling. Made a point of going to the movies every Tuesday with a couple friends, usually preceded with a meetup at the bar across the street, and possibly followed depending on circumstances.
All in all I think life is looking up.
